The design for the Ravens third uniforms will stay the same with the switch to Nike.

When Nike unveiled new uniforms for all 32 NFL teams earlier this month, they only released the designs for the Ravens’ two main jerseys – purple and white..

Instead of also debuting alternate uniform designs, Nike and the NFL left that up to each individual team to decide when they wanted to announce any changes.

The Steelers released their alternate designs yesterday, introducing a 1934 throwback that has been met with less-than-positive reviews.

The Ravens have decided not to make a change to their alternate jerseys and will instead stick with the same design, keeping the black uniforms. The black jerseys are worn with white or black pants, and often used during prime-time games.

“I love the black jerseys,” nose tackle Terrence Cody said. “Going all black is a good look. The purple is my favorite jersey, but I love when we go all black.”

Last season, the Ravens wore the black jerseys on Sunday Night Football against the New York Jets and Thanksgiving night against San Francisco, winning both games.

It has not yet been released when the Ravens will wear the alternate uniforms this year, but they can only be used twice a year (and not during the playoffs). The Ravens have worn the black jerseys twice a year in each of the last four seasons.

While the design will stay the same, the alternate black jerseys will feature the product innovations that Nike is implementing this season, such as how the uniforms fit and stretch.

Some of the areas that Nike has highlighted as performance upgrades in the jerseys include stretch twill numbers, mesh ventilation on the sides, flywire technology around the neck and a cut that allows for more mobility.
