Linebacker Prescott Burgess’ turbulent journey this season will end on injured reserve.
Burgess has been placed on the list with a thigh injury suffered on a punt return last Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals.
It leaves an empty active roster spot, but it’s unknown at this time who will fill the opening.
Burgess didn’t make the Ravens’ final cuts in training camp and spent about a month waiting to get a call with a job. The five-year veteran was re-signed on Sept. 28 after linebacker Dannell Ellerbe suffered a hamstring injury against the St. Louis Rams.
Burgess was waived again a week later, on Oct. 4, as the Ravens went into their bye week expecting to get Ellerbe back once it was over, which they did.
But Ellerbe re-tweaked his hamstring against the Houston Texans and Baltimore called Burgess again, re-signing him on Oct. 18.
During his three games played this season, the special teams ace registered two special teams tackles and one on limited defensive action.
Opposing teams have had two touchdown returns this season, both times when Burgess was on the field. He was the first of six players to miss a tackle on Cardinals returner Patrick Peterson Sunday.
The Ravens also made a swap on their practice squad. They waived safety Mana Silva (Hawaii) for the second time and signed wide receiver Rodney Bradley (Hawaii) also for the second time.
