Dawan Landry isn’t disappointed Baltimore didn’t make a stronger push to re-sign him.

On Monday night, the Ravens will be in a similar situation to the one the Houston Texans were in last week with Vonta Leach and Bernard Pollard.

They’ll be facing a former rock-solid starter that wasn’t re-signed this past offseason.

Baltimore will face off against safety Dawan Landry.

Landry signed a five-year deal with the Jaguars this offseason, leaving the team that drafted him in the fifth round of the 2006 draft and made him an immediate starter. Baltimore knew him as a hard-hitting force in the back end.

In a conference call with media Thursday, Landry said his decision basically came down to financials. He said he wasn’t disappointed the Ravens didn’t make a stronger push to sign him.

“I knew they had a lot of guys up with Sam [Koch] and Billy [Cundiff], Marshal Yanda, and I knew Haloti [Ngata] was coming up,” Landry said. “So they just had to sign guys and unfortunately I wasn’t one of them.”

Landry said he would have “definitely looked into” returning if the money in the deals had been equal. Instead, he chose the Jaguars, who are now 1-5. The Ravens added veteran Bernard Pollard to bolster the position Landry left behind.

Landry has done well in Jacksonville, ranking third in tackles with 36 in six games. He has three pass deflections and one interception.

He still stays close with Ed Reed and a lot of the Ravens’ defensive backs. Safety Haruki Nakamura said he checks in on how he’s doing.

“He’s one of us, one of our brothers,” said Nakamura, who sat right next to Landry in position meetings. “I learned a lot of ways to study from Dawan.”

Running back Ray Rice, who said Landry’s big contract was well-earned, worked out with Landry in the weight room during the lockout. Rice and Landry will surely meet in the hole on Monday Night Football.

“I’m expecting for him to be in the box, making a few tackles,” Rice said. “But I always say I have to win a fair share of the battles as well.”

Asked if he can bring down Rice, Landry chuckled.

“Yeah, I think so.”
