Bisciotti’s Goal: Beating Steelers, Super Bowl

The Ravens’ owner compared having Pittsburgh in his division to the Orioles’ situation.

It’s no secret that Ravens Owner Steve Bisciotti heads into every season with “Win A Super Bowl” written at the top of his to-do list.

But Bisciotti also knows his team must defeat its AFC North nemesis Pittsburgh Steelers in order to do so.

In fact, the Maryland native and longtime Baltimore Orioles season-ticket holder likened the Ravens’ path to a championship to his hometown baseball club.

“The Steelers are one of the best teams in the league, and we’re right there behind them,” Bisciotti said in a Fan Forum conference call with PSL holders Tuesday evening.  “Our goal is to get there. We understand that.

“It’s a high bar having them in our division, like the Orioles have had the Yankees and the Red Sox in their division for 30 years. We’d rather have it no other way.  It’s just the way it is.”

The Ravens have certainly remained closer to their chief rival than the O’s, however.

Since the 2000 campaign, the Steelers own a 15-10 advantage in the hard-fought series.  And since 2005, there have been three thrilling overtime battles.

The real daggers came in the past three years, when the Steelers ousted Baltimore in the 2008 and 2010 playoffs (including the 2008 AFC Championship).

“We’re going to try and beat them,” said Bisciotti.  “We’re going to try to get better in the regular season and the playoffs. That’s our goal, and that’s what we’re working towards.”

Ravens Head Coach John Harbaugh recognizes the challenge.

“I feel like there’s a lot I need to get ready for, and that’s what practice is for,” Harbaugh said on the second day of Ravens training camp.  “I go through the practice. I know the Steelers are a great team; but our goal is to go out there and beat them and that’s what I want to do.
