Ravens Owner Steve Bisciotti said he has “no doubt” that the Ravens will sign Pro Bowl defensive tackle Haloti Ngata to a contract extension.

But he, like everyone else not named Ozzie Newsome, doesn’t know exactly when that will happen.

“I’m having a hard time giving away $60 million, the way this thing is going,” Bisciotti said in a Fan Forum with PSL holders Tuesday evening.

“I have to leave that stuff up to Ozzie. It’s one of those things, there’s a certain way about the negotiations. … We would have loved to have had a deal and I don’t ask Oz if they’re close or not.”

Bisciotti pointed out that the Ravens were set back by the lockout this offseason, which meant they couldn’t negotiate contracts with players or agents.

He joked that Ngata isn’t giving Baltimore the hometown discount, similar to linebacker Ray Lewis after the 2008 season.

“I don’t know if Haloti will be nicer to me when it comes down to negotiating,” Bisciotti quipped. “They’re real nice to me on the sidelines. And then when I talk to them about signing they tell me to talk to their agent.”

The Ravens could create more space for themselves if they can get Ngata on a long-term contract instead of keeping him as a franchised player because they can spread the money out over a longer time period.

That would give Baltimore more freedom on the free agent market.

“I just have a feeling that things are going to work out,” Bisciotti said. “There’s no doubt in my mind Haloti’s going to be with us. We’re just trying to work out the details.”
