Ravens safety Ed Reed was in a T-shirt and shorts for Thursday’s practice.

No, there’s no injury.

Reed’s just preserving his body for the regular season, a practice Head Coach John Harbaugh has permitted for his veteran Pro Bowler.

“I’m 32, been doing this for 10 years,” Reed said.

“Longevity is a great thing. That’s the key man, preserving yourself and understanding that energy process of how you’re working out.”

Reed had hip surgery last offseason, which kept him out of training camp and the preseason altogether and put him on the Physically Unable to Perform list for the first six games of the season.

He still came back to finish tied for the NFL lead in interceptions with eight in 10 games.

“Not to build on the past, but I hit the game in stride,” he said. “I plan to do that this year with a lot more games in front of me.”

Reed says he still rehabs his hip. He spent his offseason working with a doctor in Georgia that focused on teaching Reed how to get the maximum amount of strength and power from his body, which has dealt many a big hit in his long career.

He said he’s a bit bigger and stronger now and definitely looks it. That could also be because he’s wearing the No. 3 jersey due to the fact that it’s the smallest one the Ravens have.

“This is a lifelong thing now,” Reed said of his rehab and managing his health.

“Once you have surgery, especially on your hip, you’ve got to make sure you’re taking care of your body. We all know football is a violent sport.”
