According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Ravens have informed running back Willis McGahee that he will be released, while Aaron Wilson of National Football Post states that defensive tackle Kelly Gregg received the same information.
The Ravens have not commented on any roster moves, as the schedule outlined during the NFL’s labor negotiations states that teams cannot release any players until 4 p.m. on Thursday of this week.
McGahee has four years under his belt with the Ravens. He made his only Pro Bowl appearance in 2007 by tallying 1,207 rushing yards.
Then, as Ray Rice became a featured back over the past few seasons, McGahee transitioned into more of a goal-line back, tallying a franchise-record-tying 14 touchdowns in 2009. However, he set career-lows in 2010 with 100 carries, 380 rushing yards and five touchdowns.
Gregg, 34, has been the lynchpin of the Ravens’ defense for a decade, topping the 100-yard tackle mark on four separate occasions as one of the NFL’s grittiest nose tackles.
Gregg told WNST’s Glenn Clark that he understood the situation, saying, “When you get older, that’s the way things go.”
But Gregg also noted that he would miss Ravens fans if he moves on.
“They were great to me, Baltimore’s great. I’ve had a great run," Gregg said.
