Ravens fans clamored for quarterback Joe Flacco to make more in-game decisions last season.

On Wednesday night, Head Coach John Harbaugh told them their wish will be granted.

“I think you’ll see Joe grow and expand into a more prominent role in making decisions at the line of scrimmage,” Harbaugh said to nearly 6,000 season ticket holders during a Ravens Fan Forum.

Harbaugh said Flacco audibled more than people probably realized last year, but he can do more.

It’s a freedom often give to more veteran quarterbacks, such as Indianapolis’ Peyton Manning and New England’s Tom Brady.  Flacco will be entering just his fourth season under center in 2011.

“I think we’ve got more confidence than ever in Joe’s ability to do that,” Harbaugh said. “So as we set the offense up this offseason, we’re building a lot more of those opportunities into the offense for Joe and I think you’ll see that next year.”

The offense’s framework, including how much the quarterback will be permitted to change plays, is something determined around this time of the year, Harbaugh said. Since Harbaugh has had more input into the offense this offseason, it’s something he can ensure happens.

Harbaugh said he and Flacco spent a good amount of time talking to one another earlier this offseason about the coaching changes and what next year’s offense should look like.

“Joe’s had a lot of input that way in terms of what we’re going to try to build next year. Joe’s a huge part of this thing,” Harbaugh said. “He’s my quarterback, he’s our quarterback. I know the organization believes in him. We’re going to see great things from Joe Flacco.”

Harbaugh was specifically asked whether Flacco would wear an armband with team’s play calls while in games. It’s again something seen frequently around the NFL and is used to consolidate verbiage in calls by taking a long string and turning it into a simple number.

“An armband is a possibility,” Harbaugh said. “We do a little bit of that, but our offense doesn’t have quite that much verbiage so we haven’t had to do that.”
