Baltimore stayed relatively healthy in 2010 and the prognosis for 2011 is looking positive.
The Ravens finished the year with six players on Injured Reserve and others never made it off the physically unable to perform list. Seven players missed the entire 2010 season, meaning they’ve had a head start on rehabbing.
If there is a lockout, players won’t be able to come to the team facility to rehab their injuries. Also, there would be no offseason workouts, organized team activities or any practices until a new Collective Bargaining Agreement, meaning a return date is difficult to determine.
Still, here’s a breakdown of a few key players whose rehab should be monitored:
C Matt Birk
Injury: Swollen knee
Date of Injury: Later part of the season
Possible Return: Start of 2011 season
Key Info: Had knee drained weekly near the end of the 2010 season; hasn’t missed a game since 2005
Quote: “It’s feeling better. It’s just something that takes time.”
LS Morgan Cox
Injury: Torn anterior cruciate ligament
Date of Injury: Dec. 26
Possible Return: Start of 2011 season
Key Info: First career surgery; snapped well in 15 regular-season games
Quote: “The challenge is not rushing it, but I’m aiming to start snapping by April. I’m working out to stay in shape, doing a lot of upper body work.”
CB Domonique Foxworth
Injury: Torn anterior cruciate ligament
Date of Injury: July 29
Possible Return: Now
Key Info: Rehabbed all last season; is a key member of the secondary
Quote: "I’m doing a lot better, and I could play right now if I had to.”
T Jared Gaither
Injury: Thoracic disk (back)
Date of Injury: Aug. 5
Possible Return: Now
Key Info: Athletic, big blocker was missed on Ravens’ line; severity and type of back injury was a question in 2010; started 11 games in 2009 but has dealt with other injuries before
Quote: "Basically, I’m cleared. I just have to be cleared by the ballclub and take that physical, so, yeah, I’m doing a lot better. I’m feeling great. I can’t wait for next season. I’m blessed to be OK.”
T Ramon Harewood
Injury: Damage in both knees (tissue, non-ligament)
Date of Injury: Early October
Possible Return: Start of 2011 season
Key Info: Big, raw blocker; hasn’t played in an NFL game
Quote:I’ll definitely be back in time for the offseason, but I want to be smart about it. I don’t know exactly when, but I feel like I can come back stronger.”
OLB Sergio Kindle
Injury: Skull fracture
Date of Injury: July 22
Possible Return: Unknown
Key Info: Sat out entire rookie season after falling down stairs; hasn’t been cleared for contact yet
Quote: “I’m hoping for the best, but at the same time it is a head injury and the doctors are looking out for my best interest. If they see anything that is a question, they’re going to let me know about it, which will be better off in the end. You don’t want to go in not being full speed and get hurt and be done forever.”
WR Derrick Mason
Injury: Broken finger, Hernia
Date of Injury: Jan. 26
Possible Return: Start of 2011 season
Key Info: Veteran wide receiver played through the injuries at the end of the season
Quote: “Once I rehab [the hernia], the next day it hurts real bad. I’m just trying to break up the scar tissue and stretch as much as possible to strengthen up that area.  I’ll be fine, I’m not worried about it.”
In addition, defensive tackle Kelly Talavou (leg) and center Daniel Sanders (shoulder) spent the season on Injured Reserve and third-year running back Matt Lawrence (knee) never came off the physically unable to perform list.
