The Ravens have released Quarterbacks Coach Jim Zorn after a one-year stint with the team.

“We were able to get Jim here for a year after his head coaching job with the Redskins,” Head Coach John Harbaugh said. “He was able to help us get back to the playoffs and we thank him for his contributions.”

The Baltimore Sun reported that Zorn did not attend the Senior Bowl with the Ravens’ other assistants, instead remaining at team headquarters in Owings Mills, Md.

The report stated that Zorn met with Harbaugh and Offensive Coordinator Cam Cameron for seven hours this week.

Zorn, a longtime NFL quarterback and former head coach of the Washington Redskins, was brought in to replace Hue Jackson, who recently became the Oakland Raiders’ head coach.

In his only season tutoring quarterback Joe Flacco, the Ravens finished with the NFL’s 22nd-ranked offense.

Flacco posted career highs with 3,622 passing yards and 25 touchdowns, while throwing only 10 interceptions.

But according to MASN’s Dan Kolko, ”Zorn’s West Coast offensive style didn’t mesh [with the] Ravens.”

Zorn came from a background of short, quick passes that requires fast decisions from the quarterback.

Cameron’s system, a version of the Coryell offense, is based around power rushing and deeper passes. Generally, the Ravens’ routes are more involved than that of a West Coast system, and Flacco must wait to read the defense and find the open target.

Zorn, who was known for his scrambling himself, helped Flacco with his mobility inside and outside the pocket. He brought a unique set of drills to Baltimore, trying to help the 6-foot-6 signal-caller better elude pressure.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, who first reported the news, Zorn is expected to draw interest from other teams.

Zorn is the second offensive coach the Ravens have parted ways with this offseason. The Ravens fired former Offensive Line Coach John Matsko last week.
