Ravens Head Coach John Harbaugh announced today that Offensive Coordinator Cam Cameron will have a more hands-on approach with the team’s quarterbacks.

Harbaugh also announced that Offensive Assistant Craig Ver Steeg, who has been both an offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in his 26-year coaching career, will assist with the Ravens’ quarterbacks.

Quarterbacks Coach Jim Zorn, who tutored Baltimore’s signal-callers in 2010, has been released by the team.

“We’ve talked about this since the end of the season, and we believe this will help improve our offense,” Harbaugh said.

“Cam is noted for his development of quarterbacks, and that includes Joe Flacco and Pro Bowl players like Drew Brees and Philip Rivers. Cam is excited about this change and is looking forward to it.”

As offensive coordinator in San Diego, Cameron worked with Brees from 2002 to 2005. Brees became a Pro Bowler in his third season as a starter (2004), throwing for more than 3,000 yards and 27 touchdowns to just seven interceptions.

Rivers replaced Brees as the Chargers’ starter in 2006 and threw for 3,388 yards, 22 touchdowns and nine picks in his first full season of action. Both are headed to this year’s Pro Bowl.

Cameron also coached quarterbacks from 1994 to 1996 with the Washington Redskins.

Ver Steeg was an offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Rutgers from 2003 to 2006. Before that, he coached San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith at Utah.

Quarterback Joe Flacco will have his third quarterbacks coach in as many years. Oakland Raiders Head Coach Hue Jackson worked with him in 2008 and Zorn coached him in 2009.

Harbaugh expressed his gratitude for Zorn’s efforts while in Baltimore.

“We were able to get Jim here for a year after his head coaching job with the Redskins,” Harbaugh said. “He was able to help us get back to the playoffs and we thank him for his contributions.”
