Ravens Set Playoff Return For Zibby

Zbikowski won’t head to IR. Gooden’s shoulder should be fine. Ravens waiting on Pitta.

Ravens safety Tom Zbikowski hasn’t played since injuring his back two weeks ago against the Houston Texans, and it looks like he won’t be playing this Sunday, either.

According to Head Coach John Harbaugh, the Ravens won’t place him on Injured Reserve, but a more realistic return for Zbikowski seems to be the first round of the playoffs.

“I’m not real optimistic for this week, but we’re not going to do anything as far as IR,” Harbaugh said in his Monday press conference.  “We think he’s got a good chance to get back for the playoffs. He was running around today a little bit.

“So, again, we’ll keep our fingers crossed, but I’m hopeful for the first round of the playoffs.”

Zbikowski was inactive last weekend in Cleveland, his seventh missed game of the season.

The former third-round draft pick was also held out of five contests with a foot injury.

The Ravens are more optimistic that linebacker Tavares Gooden has a shot to play in their season finale against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Gooden dislocated his left shoulder, but he said Baltimore’s medical staff popped it back in to keep him on the field.

“[Gooden is] pretty sore.  I think he’s going to be OK,” said Harbaugh.  “We just have to see how he responds, but our trainers are pretty confident he’ll be OK.”

In addition, the Ravens are monitoring the status of tight end Dennis Pitta and wideout David Reed.

Both rookies have recently sustained concussions.  Pitta was knocked out of the Browns game, while Reed left the Ravens’ Week 15 win over the New Orleans Saints.

“We’ll just sit tight,” Harbaugh explained.  “The thing we learned to do with concussions, I think, is just to assume that they’re out until they’re back. You just can’t count on those guys. We had Oniel Cousins and Tony Moll [out with concussions] in training camp it seemed like forever, and other guys come back the next day.

“David Reed’s another guy who’s in that boat right now. We’ll just have to see how he does, too. So, [we'll] keep our fingers crossed for both those guys.”
