Doesn’t Look Good For Heap vs. Texans

Todd Heap shouldn’t go on IR, but the Ravens will know more in 3 to 4 days.

Coming out of their 13-10 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Ravens are worried about the status of tight end Todd Heap.

Heap injured his hamstring on the Ravens’ first offensive play, pulling up lame while he was running a route up the seam. The 10-year veteran did not return to the game, and his outlook for next Monday’s matchup with the Houston Texans is cloudy.

“Todd is probably the one that we really are concerned about,” said Ravens Head Coach John Harbaugh. “I don’t want to rule him out yet, but it doesn’t look good for next week. It’s one of those hamstring pulls that’s going to be tough. So, the young guys are going to have to step up.”

Harbaugh said he was told by Head Trainer Bill Tessendorf that Heap wasn’t yet destined for Injured Reserve, which would end his season.

“That’s not something Bill told me today,” Harbaugh explained. “But we’ll just have to see. We’ll know in probably three to four days. We’ll just see how it responds the next couple of days.”

After Heap limped off the field in the first quarter, he was largely replaced by rookie tight end Ed Dickson, who posted three receptions for 21 yards, including two on the Ravens’ only touchdown drive of the game.

Dickson, who had one drop against the Steelers, was the target of quarterback Joe Flacco’s one-hopper on fourth-and-2 at the end of regulation.

Fellow rookie tight end Dennis Pitta could also play a more prominent role moving forward. Pitta did not register a reception.

“They both played well last night, and it wasn’t just in the pass game with Ed,” Harbaugh noted. “Both of them blocked well for young guys. I’m glad we’ve got them.”

Heap has been fairly healthy all season after battling with sundry ailments during the past few years.

The former Pro Bowler is currently fourth on the Ravens with 37 catches for 546 yards and five touchdowns.
