Ravens receiver Anquan Boldin is typically a mild-mannered guy.

But when he has something to say to his teammates during the heat of a game, Boldin lets it rip.

Following quarterback Joe Flacco’s interception on the Ravens’ first drive of the second half, cameras showed Boldin delivering some impassioned words in the middle of an offensive huddle. Boldin also delivered a fiery halftime speech in Cincinnati.

“We got to wake up!” Boldin said to his teammates. “We can’t keep putting the defense out on the field like this, man. We’ve got to hold our own!”

Not only did Thursday’s words seem to light a fire under Boldin, who hadn’t notched a catch or been targeted to that point, they also kick-started Baltimore’s comeback.

The Ravens scored touchdowns on three of their next four drives to take a 21-20 fourth-quarter lead.

Boldin got the Ravens on the scoreboard with a 5-yard leaping grab against Falcons cornerback Brent Grimes on a lofted pass to the back corner of the end zone.

It was his first catch of the game and was celebrated with an emphatic spike.

“He’s money,” NFL Network commentator Joe Theismann said of Boldin after the catch. “He’s absolute money.”

Boldin went on to make four more catches for 45 yards in the second half, including two third-down conversions. He also threw a devastating block on Falcons defensive tackle Peria Jerry, showing the wide receiver’s physical presence.

Boldin hasn’t made a catch in the first half of either of the past two games. Last week against the Miami Dolphins, he didn’t have a reception until the fourth quarter when he converted back-to-back third downs.

It could be a case of how opponents are choosing to cover the Ravens’ receivers.

“Teams are doing different things to us,” Offensive Coordinator Cam Cameron said during the bye. “A couple of games early on they were rolling coverage to Derrick [Mason]. Then they were rolling to Anquan, then back to Mason. Now, over the course of a game, we’re getting a little bit of everything.”

Boldin’s touchdown reception marked the 50th touchdown of his career. It’s Boldin’s sixth score of the season, already surpassing last year’s total and putting him on pace for double-digits.
