After starting all but two games he played in during his last two seasons in Seattle, Ravens cornerback Josh Wilson was in a backup role in Baltimore.

But when the Ravens replaced starter Fabian Washington for a second straight game, Wilson had another opportunity to prove himself.

Wilson took full advantage, notching his first interception as a Raven to seal the game and limiting top Dolphins receiver Brandon Marshall.

It’s unknown how the rotation will work moving forward, but Head Coach John Harbaugh explained his decision after the game.

“First of all, Fabian was playing okay,” Harbaugh said. “And Fabian’s going to be fine. Fabian’s a big part of what we’re doing here.

“But Ozzie [Newsome] did a nice job of bringing Josh Wilson in here. He’s here for a reason. He’s a guy that’s had a lot of success. I figure as we go forward, we want to play those corners as much as we can.”

After surrendering three touchdown passes against the Buffalo Bills two weeks ago, Washington was back out as a starter against Miami.

Washington made a nice play shedding a Marshall block to stop running back Ronnie Brown for a two-yard gain in the first quarter. But he ran into some trouble on the Dolphins’ final drive of the first half.

Washington first missed an open-field tackle on Miami receiver Brian Hartline, resulting in a gain of 31 yards. He then yielded 11- and 8-yard receptions to wideout Davone Bess, putting the Dolphins on the Ravens’ 1-yard line.

Baltimore decided to go to Wilson at halftime.

Washington said he didn’t feel he was playing poorly, but supported the decision. Asked if he still views himself as a starter, Washington laughed and said, “Of course.”

“It bothers me, but at the end of the day it doesn’t bother me,” Washington said. “I feel like I’ll get my shot to get back on the field. When I do, you’ve got to take advantage like Josh did today.”

In the fourth quarter, Wilson was tested by a deep pass to the end zone when in 1-on-1 coverage versus Marshall, but held firm for an incompletion. Then, as the Dolphins made a last-ditch effort on their final drive, Wilson intercepted a pass on a comeback route by Bess. It’s his seventh career pick.

“You’ve got to always wait,” Wilson said of getting more playing time. “It’s not your will, it’s the Lord’s will. When He gives you the opportunity, you’ve got to be prepared.

“To show your abilities and show what you can do to help this team, it’s a great feeling. I’m just glad I was able to do that today.”
