The day after wideout Donte’ Stallworth participated in his first practice of the season, linebacker Tavares Gooden took the field, as well.

Stallworth joined the Ravens yesterday after sitting out the first six weeks with a broken foot, while Gooden injured his shoulder in Baltimore’s Week 2 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals and hadn’t practiced until Friday.

Both players are ruled out for Sunday’s matchup with the Buffalo Bills, but their ability to practice marked a step in a positive direction.

“[It was] very encouraging to see Donte’ and Tavares,” said Head Coach John Harbaugh. “They both took part in some things and that was really good to see.”

Gooden said he was unsure when he’d be able to see live action, but the Miami native was hopeful he could use next week’s bye to suit up Nov. 7 against the Miami Dolphins.

“We can’t disclose that information, but boy, that would be fun,” Gooden said. “Against the hometown team, that would be fun. I’m going to keep working hard and take it one week at a time and pray that I can play against the Dolphins.

“I only practiced one day, I don’t know how that’s going to go as far as me playing or depth chart stuff like that, but I can’t wait until I do get an opportunity again.”

After his most extensive work since the injury originally occurred, Gooden was happy to begin the process of shaking off the rust, and acknowledged that he still has a long way to go before he is back to his speedy self.
“The head trainer came to me today and said, ‘It’s up to you. Go out there and see how you feel,’” Gooden said. “I took it a step further, went out there and ran around a little bit. Felt good, though. There’s no shape like football. Me and Chris Carr were just joking around about it. You can do all the sprints and stuff you want, but there’s nothing like football shape. I think that will help me out a bit.”

Harbaugh said a Week 9 return for both Stallworth and Gooden was realistic.

“That would probably be something they’re both shooting for,” Harbaugh noted. “We won’t know until probably when they start practicing next week to see how close they are. I just think it’s fair to say they’re shooting for that.”
