Not only are the Marching Ravens going to perform during halftime of the Ravens’ regular season home opener vs. the Cleveland Browns this weekend, but they will be joined by Grammy-nominated rock band Buckcherry.

Performing their new song “It’s A Party” at M&T Bank Stadium, Buckcherry is piggybacking off a popular concert at Baltimore’s Power Plant Live! for the Ravens’  Countdown to Kickoff Party earlier this month.

“We were already talking to the band about Countdown to Kickoff, and were just wondering what else they would be interested in doing,” said Ravens Vice President of Marketing Gabrielle Dow.  “We just asked, ‘Why not play halftime?’ knowing that the Marching Ravens would love it.

“It’s going to be a great match.”

Josh Todd, Buckcherry’s lead singer, thinks so, too.

When the Ravens approached Buckcherry with their halftime proposition, Todd thought the thumping groove of “It’s A Party” would work with a marching band sound.

But it wasn’t until Todd Clontz, Musical Director of the Marching Ravens, boarded the tour bus and played a rough cut that Todd was sold.

“It was pretty crazy to hear your music in another format like that,” said Todd.  “We’re extending the intro and the mid-section.   They worked around what we already had, so there are a few new flavors.”

Todd said the guys were also drawn to the opportunity because of their love of football and respect for the history of the Marching Ravens.

In addition, Todd said he is looking forward to taking the stage in front of a frenzied Ravens crowd.

“This is a dream come true for us to play a halftime show,” said Todd, an admitted Dallas Cowboys fan.  “To be in a stadium like that and be the focus of over 70,000 people is crazy.  It’s what you dream about as a kid.

“We’ve been doing this over a decade, and this is a historical moment for us.  We’ve worked really hard for this moment.”

Buckcherry is currently touring in support off their fifth album, “All Night Long,” which debuted at No. 10 on the Billboard Top 200 Chart.  It was also Billboard’s No. 1 rock album.

Even though Sunday’s performance will only be for one song, Todd hopes to bring the concert atmosphere he’s seen each night on the road to the gridiron.

And judging by the many shows Buckcherry has played in the Baltimore area, Todd knows that won’t be difficult.

“It’s such a fun song to play live, and the crowd can really get into it,” Todd said.  “It’s a rock’n'roll anthem. Hopefully, we’ll host the party, and it will go off.

“Hopefully, the Ravens are up and we’ll go kill it.”
