The Ravens signed offensive tackle Andrew Gardner to their practice squad on Thursday, adding more depth to the offensive line heading into the 2010 season.

To make room for the 6-foot-6, 305-pound Gardner, the Ravens waived quarterback Hunter Cantwell.

Gardner was recently cut by the Miami Dolphins after a year of being groomed as two-time Pro Bowl left tackle Jake Long’s insurance.

The Georgia Tech product was a four-year starter for the Yellow Jackets before an injured shoulder ended his senior campaign early. Before then, Gardner had 48 consecutive starts – every game of his college career – and helped running back Tashard Choice lead the ACC in rushing in 2006 and 2007.

Subsequent shoulder surgery left him unable to perform in the NFL Scouting Combine, and he dropped to the sixth round of the 2009 draft.

The Ravens also have tackle Devin Tyler on their practice squad, as Jared Gaither’s back injury is still healing and backup Oniel Cousins is dealing with a concussion suffered in the preseason.

Cantwell was brought in as a developmental prospect behind starter Joe Flacco and capable backup Marc Bulger. The Louisville passer spent the 2009 season on the Carolina Panthers’ practice squad.
