Baltimore filled its final roster spot Tuesday, signing defensive back David Pender to the practice squad.

The 6-foot Purdue product reportedly participated in a tryout with defensive backs Chevis Jackson, Lydell Sargeant and Terrail Lambert Tuesday, according to the National Football Post.

After earning second-team All Big-Ten honors as a senior and notching three interceptions in three seasons, Pender went undrafted and was picked up by the Philadelphia Eagles. He was released on Sept. 3 before the Ravens scooped him up.

“I’m just real grateful for the opportunity,” Pender told reporters. “I’m assuming I had the best 40-time and I feel like I looked the best out of the DBs they brought in. I came in and did everything I had to do and impressed the coaches.”

According to NFLDraftScout.com, Pender’s technique needs work, but he has “more than respectable” speed and athleticism and good size. He does not back down on press coverage.

The Ravens had one remaining practice squad start after they were not able to bring cornerback Prince Miller back to the team. After originally making the Ravens’ 53-man roster then being released the next day, Miller opted to sign on with New England’s practice squad.

Penders joins tight end Davon Drew, wide receiver Justin Harper, offensive lineman Bryan Mattison, outside linebacker Albert McClellan, running back Curtis Steele and tackle Devin Tyler on the Ravens’ practice squad.
