‘Surprised’ If Ravens Don’t Trade For CB

The Ravens have been hit hard at the cornerback position in training camp, and ESPN reporter Adam Schefter thinks that will prompt the team to trade for a corner before the regular season begins.

“They’re going to have to make a trade for a cornerback, and I think the team will be active in searching for a cornerback,” Schefter told BaltimoreRavens.com.  ”As the preseason goes on, they’ll keep close tabs on other teams and what they need.”

It’s been rough in Baltimore.

Domonique Foxworth went down before the first full-team training camp practice with a torn anterior cruciate ligament. Lardarius Webb is still recovering from a similar injury.

And even though Fabian Washington is still working back into playing shape since a knee injury ended his 2009 campaign early, Chris Carr and K.J. Gerard have missed practice time with undisclosed injuries.  And, rookie free agent Prince Miller was attending to the birth of his daughter on Sunday.

Cary Williams left Monday’s practice briefly, but returned while Gerard participated on a limited basis.

That left the Ravens with Washington, Williams, Travis Fisher, Doug Dutch and Chris Hawkins as the only fully-healthy corners.

“I’d be surprised if the season opened up and the Ravens had the cornerbacks on their roster then that they do today,” Schefter noted.  ”I think this team still has another move at the cornerback position in it.”

Schefter pointed to the Ravens’ surplus of running backs as potential trade bait.

“A team like Denver loses a running back. Well, this team has a lot of running backs,” he continued.  ”Maybe you call Denver and say, ‘Hey, we’ll trade you a running back for a cornerback.’ Things like that that could happen, you don’t know when or where the trade will happen.”

Schefter declined to offer any names he thought would interest the Ravens.
