Ravens Owner Steve Bisciotti took time on Thursday to talk exclusively with baltimoreravens.com’s Mike Duffy. Read what he had to say in our blog series and watch the full video here.
Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti has read all the headlines Ed Reed’s made lately, but that hasn’t prompted him to get mixed up in his star safety’s business.
Bisciotti said he understands why Reed has recently vented about things such as his health, contract status and one misunderstanding regarding the acquisition of game tape. He is also confident Head Coach John Harbaugh and Reed will resolve whatever issues exist.
“He’s been such a general on the field and such a great guy in our community that he had to be pretty upset to start talking the way he did,” Bisciotti told BaltimoreRavens.com in an exclusive interview. “We’d all rather have everything done behind closed doors, but he did it and John told me last night that he had a great conversation with him in the weight room. I just think that is will get worked out.
“I think he’s earned the right to be frustrated. We all have families, and things aren’t always smooth.”
Bisciotti took a similar stance when he was previously asked about Reed’s hinted retirement because of lingering injuries. In March, Bisciotti said he wasn’t going to call Reed, noting, “I don’t think my begging is going to change his final decision.”
“I made a point of saying a few months ago in the one or two interviews I did that I would not call Ed and check on his status,” said Bisciotti on Thursday. “You can take it either way. I could call him and check up on him like I care, or I can give a man who’s accomplished that much his space to make his own decision. Back then, we were talking about him possibly retiring.
“I just thought he didn’t need that extra burden of me sticking my nose in it.”
Reed reported to Ravens training camp on Wednesday with the rest of the veterans.
