The quote came to mind when reading headlines surrounding two of the Ravens’ AFC North rivals.
The latest hit for the Bengals came yesterday as running back Cedric Benson hired attorney David Cornwell, who also represented Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, after he was arrested on a charge of assault in Austin, Texas.
In the ESPN video below, Adam Schefter explains that because Benson was arrested and charged with a crime, he has violated the NFL’s personal conduct policy and the league will need to determine if a suspension or discipline is warranted.
A decision on discipline is likely a ways off, but the Ravens are scheduled to battle the Bengals in Week 2 and again in Week 17, the season finale.
Last season, Benson broke the Ravens’ 39-game streak of not allowing a 100-yard rusher in a game. He rushed for 120 yards on Oct. 11 and 117 yards on Nov. 8.
The Steelers also received bad news yesterday, as it was confirmed that offensive tackle Willie Colon will require surgery to repair a torn Achilles’ tendon and will miss all of next season.
Colon’s agent, Joe Linta, told ESPN that his client is expected to be fully recovered after a nine-month rehab process.
Earlier this offseason, linebacker Rey Maualuga was arrested for a DUI and recently quarterback Carson Palmer sounded off on receiver Chad Ochocinco for not participating more in team activities. The Steelers traded away receiver Santonio Holmes and Roethlisberger is set to serve a six-game suspension.
These two teams just can’t seem to catch a break.
Boldin Expects Big Results With Ravens
A fun tidbit to come out of receiver Anquan Boldin’s interview with ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio…
On the day he was traded to the Ravens in March, Boldin said he received a phone call from linebacker Ray Lewis and the conversation went something like this: Lewis: “You know, it’s in Dallas this year.”
Boldin, who knew immediately Lewis was referring to Super Bowl XLV: “I’m ahead of you. I’m already there.”
