The Ravens waived four rookies and a first-year player Thursday, including three defensive backs.

The list includes rookie free agent defensive backs Ashton Hall, Brad Jones and Courtney Smith. Rookie free agent defensive lineman John Fletcher and first-year guard/center Daniel Sanders were also released.

The move could be linked to the Ravens wanting to add veteran help to their secondary.

On WBAL Radio Tuesday night, Ravens Head Coach John Harbaugh said the team is likely to sign “at least one” of the three veterans – Walt Harris, Ken Hamlin or Ken Lucas – that tried out last week during organized team activities.

Smith, a 5-foot-11 cornerback/returner from Central Washington, was trying to make the difficult transition from a small school to the NFL.

Jones, a 6-foot safety/cornerback from Cincinnati, was signed on May 17 after the other initial crop of rookie agents were brought in.

Hall, a 5-foot-10 safety from Marshall, was working on a shift to cornerback.

Fletcher, a 6-foot-6 lineman from Wyoming, was amongst a very deep defensive line.

Sanders is the only player with NFL game experience. The undrafted guard/center from Colorado played in three preseason games for the St. Louis Rams last year but wasn’t retained. He signed a Reserve/Future contract in Baltimore on Jan. 21 and was a constant figure at offseason workouts.
