Wide receiver Mark Clayton did not participate in the Ravens’ first day of mini camps because he had a minor procedure on his right shoulder two weeks ago, Head Coach John Harbaugh announced Monday.

Harbaugh said Clayton should be available for most of the offseason organized team activities (OTAs), which start on May 17 and continue almost every week until mid-June. Harbaugh nor Clayton said how the injury was originally sustained.

“It was just a scope to clean it out,” Clayton said. “I’ll be back in about three weeks.”

Meanwhile, Ed Reed was the only Ravens player not in attendance Friday morning. The Pro Bowl safety recently had a procedure on his hip area.

Harbaugh said that the Ravens tried to solve Reed’s injury with rehab for as long as they could before having to make a decision on whether to have a procedure. Ultimately, Reed made the call to get it done.

“This is kind of Ed’s process more than anything,” Harbaugh said. “He understands his body better than anybody. He’s been driving this. He decided to get the procedure now to give him the best chance to get back for the most time in Training Camp so that he can to get ready for the season.”

Linebacker Jarret Johnson sat out the full team drills, but did participate in individual drills. Johnson reportedly is recovering from a shoulder procedure and isn’t expected to participate in team drills during this weekend’s minicamp.

“I feel fine,” Johnson said. “I’m just not taking part in the physical stuff. But I should be back out there soon.”

Other non-participants Monday included defensive tackle Kelly Gregg (shoulder), defensive tackle Haloti Ngata (chest), safety Haruki Nakamura (ankle), linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo (leg) and cornerbacks Fabian Washington (knee) and Lardarius Webb (knee).

“Lardarius and Fabian are doing well,” Harbaugh said. “I’d say they’re ahead of schedule.”

It’s still unknown whether Washington and Webb will be able to go Week 1. That is the hope. Nakamura is aiming for Training Camp and the timetable on Gregg and Ngata is unknown.
