Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco got his first taste of what it’s like throwing to receiver Anquan Boldin on Tuesday, as the team’s voluntary football school had the passing attack working out in the field house.

Essentially a teaching session, offensive coordinator Cam Cameron spent some time running through basic routes for all the receivers, and then quarterbacks let the footballs fly.

After only one day together, Flacco felt he and Boldin would be in-synch in no time.

“The throwing will come, and we still have a long way to go,” said Flacco. “I’m not sure what they ran out in Arizona, but I don’t think a player like Anquan will have any trouble picking it up. We’ll be on the same page soon, I’m sure.”

Boldin said he was used to Cameron’s system, but just had to acclimate himself to the terminology. Boldin said former Arizona Cardinals offensive coordinator and receivers coach Jerry Sullivan ran a similar operation, as did former Cardinals head coach Dennis Green.

Flacco sensed that, noting Boldin’s progression throughout the morning session.

“He’s going to just have to learn the offense, and today was another step,” noted Flacco. “I kind of realized that he was getting comfortable throughout the morning. He seemed to have an idea about what we are doing here.”

The duo had actually met previously at a charity flag football tournament hosted by former Cards quarterback Kurt Warner on March 6, one day after the Ravens sent third- and fourth-round draft picks out west for Boldin and a fifth-rounder. Ravens tight end Todd Heap, an Arizona resident, also attended the event.

Did any touchdowns come out of that encounter?

“We didn’t get to throw out there,” Flacco said with a laugh. “It was a coincidence that we were both there, just a day after the trade. We’re just getting started now, though.”
