Ravens unrestricted free agent Dwan Edwards reportedly left Buffalo without a deal on Tuesday, according to the Baltimore Sun.
Considering he didn’t reach a new contract agreement while there, Edwards’ return to Baltimore could be even more likely.
Edwards previously met with the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks, but did not get a new deal from either team.
Edwards said he has no other visits scheduled at this point.
“I would like to get [a new contract] done sooner than later,” Edwards told Buffalo media during his visit. “I know the offseason programs start and I’d like to get started and jump in and be the best player I can be.”
Edwards was a coveted free-agent prospect when the open market first broke. Despite missing the entire 2008 campaign with a back injury,
Edwards responded with a breakout performance last year, posting 50 tackles, one sack and two fumble recoveries, one of which went for a touchdown.
A second-round draft pick in 2004, Edwards said his time with the Ravens was invaluable, but he hoped to impart some veteran leadership on a young team.
“We have so many leaders in Baltimore in Ray Lewis and Ed Reed amongst others so you get lost in terms of having a voice in front of those guys it’s tough,” said Edwards. “I’ve learned a lot from those guys and wherever I end up I’d like to bring a certain leadership quality in the way I work and practice and hopefully it’ll rub off on young guys.”
Edwards said he talked with former Bills and Ravens defensive tackle Justin Bannan, who recently signed with Denver, about his experiences in Buffalo.
“He told me all sorts of good stuff about Buffalo and the opportunity to play,” Edwards said of the Bills’ 3-4 defense. “It’s a great division.”
While Edwards could still re-sign with the Ravens, he hopes his body of work outweighs any club’s injury concerns.
“I’ve gotten better every year I’ve been with the Ravens,” said Edwards, who said he is 100 percent healthy. “Unfortunately I had the injury in ’08, but came back strong and probably had the most productive year of my career. I look forward to continue to grow and improve and be a great addition.”
