The Ravens signed two of its backups from last season in tight end Edgar Jones and defensive back Marcus Paschal.

Jones bolsters the tight end position, which had been thin. The Ravens let go of blocking tight end Quinn Sypniewski earlier this offseason and veteran L.J. Smith is an unrestricted free agent who battled injuries and caught two passes in 2009.

Jones was originally a restricted free agent, but when he did not receive a tender from the Ravens he became unrestricted.

He played in all 16 games last season, his third in Baltimore after going undrafted in 2007. Jones caught one pass for eight yards and made 19 tackles on special teams (fourth-most on the team) last year.

Paschal was a player the Ravens had exclusive rights to following the season. Any player who does not have enough years to become a restricted free agent and ends the season on a team’s 53-man roster or on Injured Reserve automatically becomes an exclusive free agent of that team and other franchises are not allowed to pursue him.

After being signed by the Ravens for a second time in 2009 on Dec. 25, the defensive back saw action in two games and made one tackle. He adds depth to the defensive backs corps, which has two unrestricted free agent cornerbacks in Corey Ivy and Frank Walker.
