On Thursday night at 10, the Food Network will air a Ravens-themed taping of their hit show “Ace of Cakes” featuring defensive tackle Haloti Ngata. The Baltimore-based cake shop hooked up with the 6-foot-4, 345-pound Ngata to make a one-of-a-kind Ravens cake that Charm City Cakes owner Duff Goldman delivered to team headquarters during the playoffs.
Here is an account of what happened on that fateful day…
The Ravens were treated to a special dessert on Friday, as Duff Goldman from the hit Food Network show Ace of Cakes came to the team’s training facility with a full Ravens cake.
Goldman was invited by defensive tackle Haloti Ngata, who participated in making the bird with the bakers (artists?) at Baltimore staple Charm City Cakes.
“I don’t bake a lot, so this was crazy,” Ngata said while beaming at his creation. “I went to the shop and all the people you see on TV were there. It was so cool being a part of the show, and I think the guys like how it tasted.”
An episode of Ace of Cakes featuring Ngata is set to air in the spring.
Goldman was wide-eyed as he received a personal tour of Ravens headquarters from Ngata. He even wore an authentic No. 92 Ngata jersey.
“We are all Ravens fanatics back there,” Goldman said. “You should see everyone at Charm City. They’ve all got their jerseys on and are ready for the game. This is awesome to be here.”
While the raven was fully edible, the Ace of Cakes crew also brought two sheet cakes with buttery icing to go along with the pumpkin spice bird cake.
I can attest, they all were delicious.
As for what Ngata will do with the leftovers…
“I don’t know,” he laughed. “I guess I’ll let everyone cut off some pieces and take some home. I want the head, though.”
