Not only is “The Blind Side” nominated for an Oscar, showing that the Academy loves it, but it is also a favorite among Michael Oher’s former teammates.

Ole Miss guard John Jerry, considered a high-round selection, gave it “two thumbs up.”

“That movie is one of my favorites,” Jerry said from the NFL Combine.  “Mike is one of my best friends, and to see that story up there, that was an inspiration to me.”

Jerry, 6-foot-6, 332 pounds, shot up the charts with a strong performance at the Senior Bowl.  Some have even placed Jerry at right tackle.

Jerry, a first-team All-SEC pick, credits Oher as a major influence when he first arrived on campus.

“I learned a lot from Mike,” said Jerry.  “From Day 1 at Ole Miss, I was Mike’s roommate in camp.  He took me on for three years, and I’m just so happy at the success he’s having.”

Pundits are wondering if Oher’s success as a rookie will translate to Jerry.

Even so, last year at this time, a knock on Oher was that the Rebels ran behind Jerry – and not the Ravens’ first-round draft pick – when they needed key yardage.

“I try not to worry about all that,” explained Jerry.  “You have to just go back and watch the tape.  Mike’s a great player, and I’m not going to take anything away from him.”
