Maryland governor Martin O’Malley officially threw the weight of an entire state behind the Ravens, as he was a special visitor at Wednesday’s practice.

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh actually paused the session and called the team together inside the fieldhouse, where O’Malley, donning a black varsity-style Ravens jacket, addressed the team and pledged his support before a playoff matchup with the New England Patriots.

He then broke the huddle with a collective “Go Ravens!” shout.

This comes on the heels of the team stenciling the Ravens’ logo on Federal Hill and in front of City Hall on Tuesday.

“We’ve got great fans – from the governor right on down, obviously,” Harbaugh said.  “It’s exciting that people are getting excited.

“Hopefully, everybody will get their flags out and drive around town with those flags waving on their cars.  But, we’re looking forward to seeing the governor.”

O’Malley said he had not yet made any friendly wagers with anyone from New England.

“I haven’t done that yet,” he explained.  “Who should I call up there? I guess I should get on that.”

Oh, and check out O’Malley’s Web site.  It’s been Raven-ized.
