Ravens left tackle Jared Gaither missed another practice on Friday with a neck injury.
Gaither, who has not practiced all week, was listed as doubtful for Sunday’s matchup with the Minnesota Vikings, making it likely that rookie Michael Oher will start at left tackle against talented pass rusher Jared Allen.
Still, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh held out hope that Gaither could still play after intense rehabilitation leading up to kickoff.
“We’re hopeful that Jared will get there on Sunday,” he said on Friday. “He’s worked really hard. He hasn’t been able to practice, but he’s been through all the walk-throughs, he’s been in all the meetings. He makes progress every day. Sometimes you get a little progress, and then it backs up a little bit. The neck is a little bit… We’re not sure about.
“But if he wakes up on Sunday, and I think he’s getting close… If he wakes up on Sunday, and he feels good, then we’re going to play him. You’ve got to put your best guys out there.”
Without Gaither, the Ravens have played Oher at left tackle and Marshal Yanda at right tackle, where he started 12 games in 2007.
“Marshal Yanda’s done a nice job all week,” Harbaugh continued. “He’s been a starter here, so we’re confident in him.”
In addition, the Ravens graded defensive tackle Haloti Ngata (back), linebacker Jarret Johnson (shoulder), tight end Edgar Jones (hamstring) and receiver David Tyree (hamstring) as probable.
For the Vikings, receiver Darius Reynaud, a special teams impact player, is doubtful with a hamstring injury.
Wideout Percy Harvin (shoulder) and tackle Phil Loadholt (ankle) are questionable, while cornerback Cedric Griffin (hand), defensive end Ray Edwards (hamstring), guard Steve Hutchinson (back) and fullback Naufahu Tahi (ankle) are all probable.
