Ravens linebacker/defensive end Terrell Suggs needed only one series to let the NFL world know that he was back.

Playing with a group of second-teamers in the first quarter, Suggs was double-teamed by Atlanta Falcons right tackle Tyson Clabo and fullback Ovie Mughelli, but beat both of his blockers to notch his first preseason sack on quarterback Matt Ryan.

The Ravens’ 20-3 win over Atlanta was impressive because of the efforts of many of those backups, but seeing Suggs out there after missing the majority of training camp with a heel injury had to make team officials sigh with relief.

“It felt good to finally get out there, but I am still a little rusty,” Suggs said. “We still have 10 days to get ready for Kansas City, but it was good to strap the pads on and get after it again.”

After helping limit the potent Falcons offense to only 16 net yards in two drives, the formerly franchised player wanted to credit his teammates.

“Well, we’ve been trying to get better as a team,” stated Suggs. “You know, we’ve been fine-tuning and getting a little more prepared. I think we did that.”

It was Suggs’ first preseason work in a while. Last year, he missed nearly all of the preseason when he was slapped with the franchise tag for the first time.

Suggs also acknowledged that it was difficult to put his injury out of his mind. But now, he’s simply looking forward to being 100 percent when the Ravens take on the Kansas City Chiefs on Sept. 13.

“I was thinking about it a little bit, especially because I got hurt on a turf field just like this,” he said. “I knew it was going to be there in the back of my mind, but once that adrenaline gets going, I’m the same old Terrell. When the Kansas City game gets here, it’ll be out of my mind and I’ll be alright.’
